It would be really eerie if a lot of the signboards were abruptly turned off. I saw videos from when people went out walking after that big power cut in Tokyo in May, and it was quite strange with so much being dark.
But Japanese do seem much more liberal with energy. It weirds me out how a quite a few stores will have the main doors wide open, with their aircon/heating going full blast.

@JayKay - I was here right after Fukushima, it was weird as fudge.. and yes, they're stupid assholes when it comes to using power. Also, A/C's in every home in every room.. blasting.. around the clock.
