I know there are shipping companies where you can rent a sea container to move your stuff over a long distance. They are usually not too expensive but just means you have to do without your stuff for a couple of weeks from pick up to delivery. Wouldn't that give you more options on what you want to take with you rather than losing a lot of stuff and buying it in Japan again?
@Thedevineass - There are those things, yes. But I've been striving for minimalistic living for a long time, and this is perfect for that, since I now get rid of things I don't need. Things I won't buy again.
