Slow start, and future plans. Mongol Rally 2013!

.. but working on it! :)

We decided to do the mongol (charity) rally next year. Entry fee is payed, and we’re slowly starting to plan it. This is going to be MENTAL!

Team name: Team Venture

For you who do not know, it’s a Charity Rally, where you basically drive a 1.2 engined car from Europe, to Ulaanbataar in mongolia. During the trip, you should try and raise money for charity and not get killed/shot/burned/eaten alive, and once there, you give the car to charity to be used as a car, or sold off and money donated to charity.

Our friend Steven Cloud did the rally a couple of years back, and we’ve been wanting to do it ever since.

Need heavy funding tho, mostly thru corporations I guess. That will be interesting :)

Thinking about maybe doing a indiegogo-project to raise some funds. Funds for the rally, but also for the charities connected to doing this rally. You guys have any ideas on what we could offer backers? Polaroid-picture from a random place in Kazakhstan? Shout out in blogs/socialmedia outlets? Stickers on the cars (yes, we’re driving two cars there), a DVD with the film we’re making while driving down (subtitled, for your pleasure), a photo book in nice quality with pictures from the road to oblivion/death, name one of the cars, we’ll draw you as a “little gamer”, give you a reoccurring spot in the comic (bring on the jokes about the comic never updating ;P), .. what else would one be able to offer? :) Give me your best tips!

Please subscribe to the newsletters we’ll be sending out. You’ll get the inside scoop on how one goes around planing and carry out something like this.

First Comment!
.. yeah. Any ideas?

Sadly you’re married now. You could have sold your body :)
If you do a documentary (a good one, not a crappy one) you won’t even have a hard time to find someone sponsoring you.

I wish you fun on your trip next year and I hope you get far.

(And you just find the best excuses to not update the comic, eh?)

Koala: Yes, only the greatest excuses are good enough for the readers of little gamers! :)

He did his own 1st comment, nice… Jan Lammers did it with Racing for Holland, to get enough doe to enter the 24h Le Mans: sell advertorial space on the car by the bitesize. Many private sponsors there. You could do something likewise with LG avatars of the readers: ‘Your avatar on the car against a set price’. A big ad for your own business is a no-brainer: would be tax deductible.

Huh? What do you mean? :)
I get the whole deal with stickers.. but not the link :)

http://www.lemans-models.nl/2001/2001LM09_car.JPG That’s the “stickers”

I like the idea. Make it juicy by allowing the donors to design the sticker themselves if they wish. I would find something really offending to some nation on your route :D

Yeah, good idea.. but.. well.. offensive things is a NO GO :)

awww, come on! You’ve never really been in a country unless you’ve been chased by an angry mob.

You got some great ideas – I hope I’ll be able to afford to be drawn you as a “little gamer” o/
Timely updates could be a fundraiser blaze, I guess… :P

It was just a link to a site with a pic of the car I meant to show. Lots of black&white squares with sponsornames in them. On the dark side: you can hardly read them…

Hehe.. :)

You might go the way of ‘the ads no one ever sees’. Would be in character : ) As long as we can boast: ‘Hey man, you weren’t there. You weren’t there, man’.
Will there be a T-shirt? You once did that gag about trading Ted for a camel…

August 28th, 2012 at 12:47 pm

There will be a t-shirt, of course :)

The ted joke was actually about the last time we started playing around with doing the rally, sadly that time we didn’t get enough people together, unlike this time! :D

August 28th, 2012 at 12:50 pm

Given the 1.2s, bring Ted with you on the trip. And his sister. Gonna need ’em.

Awright! A t-shirt! Put me down for one. Size L these days, sadly.
Oh, this might be a beaut: give a sponsor an LG-styled ad, make him a deal to put it on the car ánd on his own t-shirt. Package deal.

There is no spoon.
