Go random for a bigger share of a lottery jackpot

Whenever you play the lottery, you have a flash forward to how life might be if you won the draw and became a millionaire. But, today, some of the lottery jackpots that are around reach incredible amounts, so that with some of the jackpots, a winner would become an instant multi-millionaire.

Take the example of the one lucky ticket-holder from Spain who was the winner of the incredible 135 Million euros lottery draw on 13 June this year. The winning numbers were 16, 18, 22, 28, 46 with the lucky stars 9 and 11. It’s not known whether the winner had a system for choosing their numbers or if they used a random number generator online or even just went for a lucky pick. Whoever has had this incredible win hasn’t been named yet and perhaps with that kind of new-found wealth, it’s wiser for them to remain anonymous.

There are all kinds of theories on how people should pick their lottery numbers but none of them will make you any more likely to win the lottery, as the balls that are drawn are always drawn at random. Choosing the numbers may make players think they’re going to be lucky, but even if they are, it’s got nothing to do with the choice process; the results are still completely random.

In fact, many people advocate not choosing your lotto numbers as the only thing you do by picking favourite dates and lucky numbers, or choosing a pattern or sequence of numbers, is to choose the same combinations as other people. For example, as many as 10,000 people a week choose the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 when playing the UK National Lottery. And the downside to doing that is that if you were lucky enough to win, you’d have to share a jackpot win with other players, meaning that you even if you won the lottery it might not make you a millionaire.

So, play it safe and use random numbers when playing the lottery. That way you stand a greater chance of taking home a bigger share in a jackpot and you won’t ever be paranoid about missing a draw and seeing your favourite numbers come up as the winning numbers that week!

I use random numbers and I only buy one. I don’t get when people buy 2, 5, or even 10 tickets for themselves. You’re not really increasing your chances by any significant amount. 1 ticket per drawing is enough.

There is no spoon.
