If i were an ISP in Sweden I would sue someone for undermining my business. How are we to motivate expansion and development with no traffic to fill it with? Useless.

With today's music? I'm surprised they sell anything at all, based on what I see on MTV that is. The heart&soul have truly left us. Good contemporary music is not to be found on tv or in the shops.

Well, if filesharing is a substitite for buying and IPRED lowered filesharing by 30%, it follows that sales of music should rise by 30% right about now. Would anyone care to take a wager that this did not, in fact, happen?

Living in America, I already buy none of those things - we are FUCKING BROKE kids.

Anyway, the undernets will become more opaque, the sharing protocols more devious. Imagine a darknet that operated like bit-torrent, but with file lists and requests - any computer that joined would upload it's file list, to be shared in a distributed database amongst participants. When someone requests a file and you aren't online, when next you join your computer will either send the file to that person, or upload it to caches across the peernet if the requester isn't online at the time. Anyone who has the caching turned on will be notified that they're helping with the file, and be given the option of previewing or receiving the whole thing if they want it too.

It would be a sort of push-pull P2P, getting files EVEN MORE widely distributed than with current search-and-request-currently-popular-files model. It would insure that even occasional, rare files would have a chance to become popular. It would be HUGE.

And this idea is open source. Good luck.

I certainly would have no problem with not downloading anything over a full week, although it is probably because of my strange views on the subject. That is to say, I tend to disagree at least lightly with both sides of the illegal downloading subject-- I don't like illegal downloads and disagree with piracy, but I hate the assholes in big business who continually try and stamp out my rights while at the same time trying to get me to buy more of their overhyped bullshit.

I could just about manage a week of no downloads. Just.
Especially in the summer, I'll be afk a lot more (in a beer garden :)
Not buying any CDs during an entire month would be more difficult though, would we be allowed to pirate stuff that month?
