I work in United States Broadcast. US began changing years ago, ninetysome percent of stations have been airing digital since about 2002, the end of the change is February 2009. Remember, we have a lot more land to cover, and a lot more stations to change than any individual European country does.

In NL digiTV is getting nowhere, more and more people don’t watch at all anymore. Thirty channels of shit on the tv to choose from… Great cure for insomnia tho.

Still on analogue here. It’s a lot more expensive to have digital tv if you have 2 (or more) tv’s than analogue, for us. Even if you get more channels. That’s why it’s nice to live in a Comhem building; even if sweden is digital these days, comhem still provide analogue for their customers.

Not only don’t you have to pay but you are also getting more channels for free now then you did with analog tv. If the channels are anything to have is another question.

Wait, you dont have to pay monthly for a box… only if you want more than the basic chanels, and we have TVs with digital tuners here to.
We have both at my house. (and yes, I’m swedish)

Gorp: that’s because they can increase the strength and bandwidth of the digital signals once analog is off.. Mostly the strength, thus increasing the digital coverage.
Oh, and london doesn’t have 100% digital coverage.. I still can’t get anything on the Five mux.. Not that I’m missing much :P Can’t remember the last time they aired anything even vaguely worth watching..

The UK starts switching over this year, and guess what areas get the analogue signal switched off first? Yep, the areas with the smallest digital coverage. The likes of London, with it’s 100% digital coverage, doesn’t get switched off for 3 years or something. It’s a complete farce. Lucky you can get all your TV off the internet these days…..

Sorry for the conspiracy theory, but I think they’re all doing it to better monitor/control broadcasts. Subliminal messaging has been outlawed forever, but who says its not still used? The people who made the Silent Hill movie used soundwaves to affect mood… the possibilities are limitless. Anyway, I use cable and so haven’t looked into the digital converter thingy.
