First day.

This is the first day in the history of the united states of America. What ever happened, is in the past. Learn from that, and please, do not fuck this one up. I remember when I heard someone shot Olof Palme. I remember when the radio told me that the Berlin wall had fallen. I remember a few months later when Nelson Mandela was released. I remember where I was and what I was doing during 9-11. My generation has had the opportunity of experience big things take place (of course many more things than mentioned above, these were only things I personally will never forget) that has changed the world for millions of people, and for the world.

I’m not saying Obama’s win is as huge and great as above mentioned things, but Mr. Obama winning is hopefully something we can look back on and say -“I was there, I was there for the start of a new era”.

… unless he’s a douchebag :)

Crap I’m tired.. time to go to work. On the downside, since Obama won, I owe Boyd money, $33, not $50. I’m happy to pay that tho.

November 5th, 2008 at 11:23 am

Man America should vote more often, it’s a great excuse for having a party on tuesday (not that i need one)! Also I’m pretty happy about the outcome, although not as much as Madsen oO…

November 5th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

i just hope the small army of hicks that voted mcain isnt gonna try anything >_<

November 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm

I remember where I was when the news came that 2pac was shot.

November 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm

I like how anyone who doesn’t support a Democrat is automatically assumed to be a hick. Elitist jackoff.

November 5th, 2008 at 1:39 pm

the states that voted mcain says it all xD

November 5th, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Obama wins. We’re saved (unless we fuck it up). Time to put an end to conservative values that encourage old ideas and greed.

President Obama is an American Politician …

… of course he’s a douchebag.

November 5th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

Yup, time to put an end to conservative values of such people like Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as EVERY SINGLE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT in the U.S.

November 5th, 2008 at 6:40 pm

Let’s see

November 5th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

remember bush is still in office for 2 months, plenty of time to fuck up shit…

November 5th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Obama doesn’t support gay marriage nor marijuana legalization; the only two issues I really care about right now. As far as I see it he’s the lesser of two evils, nothing more. Fucking pathetic two party system.

November 5th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Speaking as a proud American (for the first time in a long time), yea for us! I hope we might be able to hold our heads up high in international circles again.
4 years ago, Americans were bitchin’ the whole world hates us, blah, blah, gonna take my ball and go home, whine whine. Watching the worlds reaction to this election, I think it is clear, most of “them” didn’t hate us. They were F*cking disappointed in America. They expected better of us than that whiny fear mantra we were spouting.

Now if my home state of CA would just pull it’s collective head out of its spiteful ass. Prop 2 passed. Harrah! Lets save the animals! Prop 8 passed. But f*ck people. We don’t need to be nice to them. They are different.
Luckily most of the people who voted yes on 8 are morons and don’t realize that it doesn’t actually change the CA Constitution. It just asks the State Legislature if they would pretty-please think about it. They need a 2/3rd majority, then it needs to be ratified by the Gov. He’s an ass but atleast he stated months ago he would never sign off on the shit.

PS. Obama did come out fairly strongly against Prop 8. It was all over the TV here. And in his speach last night he listed Black, White, Latino, Asian. Straight and Gay in his equality speel. No President Elect has done that in a major speach before.
Nothing on his stance on pot yet though. I’ll keep an ear out for ya.

November 6th, 2008 at 1:21 am

As stated previously above by someone else, I find it hilarious how people keep forgetting that Barack Obama doesn’t become President until next year. Let’s not jump the gun folks, the “new” US hasn’t started yet.

November 6th, 2008 at 1:56 am

We may not have a new President in office yet, but the fact that we elected this great man is a new beginning for us as a country. I think it’s important to remember that, even if we won’t see any real changes in the White House until February.

On another note… I can now say, proudly: America! Fuck yeah!

Pontus: Wanna bet on the outcome?
Matt: Sure!
Matt: I’ll even give you 3-1 odds.
Matt: Only fair, since Obama is the frontrunner.
Potus: k, how much?
Matt: $100?
Matt: $33 from you if Obama wins, $100 from me if McCain wins.
Pontus: sure, make it 50/100 tho
Matt: Okay.
Pontus: don’t want you to pay that much more

November 6th, 2008 at 10:26 am

ok ok matt, forgot that last part.. how do you wanna do it? Shall I paypal, or wait until the summer when I’ll most probably see you alive in real life? :)

November 6th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

*shakes head* why would you put money on McCain?? Obama had Oprah…OPRAH

November 6th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Yeah, a bunch of Americans voted in a Socialist. That is a WONDERFUL change. I hope I don’t have to get my identification number engraved on my forehead. We can always hope for the best.

November 6th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

The only thing I hate more than a Democrat is a Republican.

I’m waiting for a pseudo-Socialist Libertarian-Police State with municipal democracy and federal dictatorship. That feels right to me. Allow people complete and absolute freedom on a social level, but enslave them entirely on a political level. Let the people do what they want in their own personal lives, but never allow them to effect anything the government does. Who cares if you marry a goat or shoot heroin into your eyes? As long as you pay taxes and keep your mouth shut, the dictator will protect you and make the important decisions.

One day it will all be mine…

November 6th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

I f*ing hate when people reefer to the US as “America”, America is a f*ing continent!!!

Jim Vowles
November 7th, 2008 at 4:51 am

Actually, NORTH America is a continent.

And BTW, *great* comics this past week.

November 8th, 2008 at 2:47 am

Yeah, I dunno, whenever. Expensive drinks at Otakon or something.

November 8th, 2008 at 3:32 am

@Psychomech – quote “Who cares if you marry a goat or shoot heroin into your eyes? As long as you pay taxes and keep your mouth shut, the dictator will protect you and make the important decisions.”

That´s basicly how the US is atm right. It´s just that they call it a ´president´ instead of a ´dictator´. Oh yeah, and you can skip the protection part ;)

November 8th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

I just love it when you have ninnies from other countries spewing pretentious rhetoric about something they know very little about.Oh yes,Obama’s a socialist because he wants to get the US out of this economic rut it’s in and make sure everyone is on fair and level ground financial.Honestly,if that was true about him being what a socialist actually means (and I read the definition, and to me it doesn’t sound nearly as bad as some people perceive it to be if they just think about it),we would have been fucked from the outset years ago when Clinton was in office.

November 8th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Socialism SOUNDS good. But who decides who gets what?

When was the last time you saw a ‘good’ government program? One without waste and people gaming the system?

Or how one of my teachers put it to me socialism is a GREAT idea. Everyone helping each other to their best ability. However, all it takes is one douchebag to ruin it for the rest of us. 1 dude to decide he doesnt want to help at all. Then someone else figures it out and so on. Then you have a group who only exist as parasites on the others. Only consuming and never producing.

When I run into people who say ‘yeah i use my SS check to buy drugs’ I want to hurt them severally. That money is MEANT to help people who need it. Instead after awhile they come to depend on it and do not want to better themselves. There is a fine line between helping you, and you taking advantage of me.

‘All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others’ — George Orwell Animal Farm

November 9th, 2008 at 12:07 am

I am on SS and I have used it to buy food, pay bills, take my dogs to the vet so they wouldn’t die, and am going to try to open a business with it so that I don’t need it anymore. Remember, SS is good, it helps the economy, it starts new businesses, etc. I’m a Marxist and believe it’s sad that no one has got it nearly right, because of what Marx said, power would cause the leaders to become corrupt, and until our leaders actually wish to serve us, well we are fucked.

November 9th, 2008 at 12:06 pm

Ih,you and Arenlor make good points, and sadly that’s how the current state of affairs are for the US and other established governments. There will be always be someone taking advantage of services provided to them for the wrong reasons, but does not mean everyone is like that.To strike a balance and make things fair for everyone,to gain such a perfection is difficult, but it doesn’t mean we can’t come as close as we can to it to better ourselves in the long run.

November 10th, 2008 at 10:36 am

The problem I’ve always had with what A.L. Just said is the phrase “…to make things fair for everyone…”, there’s a reason why the opening line is “… all men are created equal”, not, “all men are created fairly”, or, “all men are created the same”; because we’re not the same, each of us is completely unique and we should embrace that, and life is not fair to all (or even most) of us. Equality thoug, is something that is possible to reach, and isn’t subjective to our personal objectivity.

If Obama were remotely socialist, as opposed to a standard center-left politician, this conversation would be FASCINATING.

November 10th, 2008 at 11:33 am

Ok either I’ve been up too long or I don’t know what, but did anyone else read Fascist into the capitalization above?

November 11th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Someone please explain to me what this guy meant when he said “What ever happened, is in the past.”

November 12th, 2008 at 12:04 am

The only thing I hate more than anyone is a Democrat. Over the decades the bar has moved so far to the left, that if you’re a left-wing nutjob (read – nearly all Democrats), you can do no wrong and all Republicans are mindless hicks that tote their guns and shoot gays.

Seriously, my country is so f’ed up in that the Democrats are the kings of double-standards. Goodness help you if you say something bad about a Democratic president, saw what Clinton got away with? Pretty much murder, don’t visit his home, seriously.

Clinton elected, he fired 93 judges (most of them Republicans), the media loved him. Bush elected, he fired 8 judges (only half were Democrats), the media tore him a new asshole.

Yeah, and what happened in the House? Yeah, might as well just have sent a memo to the Republicans saying “Don’t bother showing up for work, we have the majority now, go F#$k yourselves.”

To end this long diatribe;

Democrats are nutjobs, plain and simple.

November 12th, 2008 at 2:45 am

So wait, you just made the assumption that all Democrats are nutjobs, because you think that they think that all Republicans are mindless hicks? Isn’t that whole rant just a huge contradiction on yourself? I mean, I’m a Democrat, but I didn’t hate Bush because he was a Republican, I hated him because he was a retard. And I think that just about everyone, Republican or Democrat, can agree that this country will be much better off with him out of office soon.

November 12th, 2008 at 5:53 pm

Nope, you make an incorrect assumption as to my reasoning why Democrats are all insane. I’ve lived my life mostly middle of the road until the last few years, and if you had read the rest of my rant you would realize that my hatred of Democrats stems from the fact that they are ALLOWED, nay, ENCOURAGED to double-standard and assault the Republicans at every turn.
Democrats only voted for Obama because he wasn’t a Republican, and anyone who thinks Socialism is good for America is nuts man. All it takes is one douche to not contribute and the system starts to falter, and guess what, America is full of lazy douche’s that use their welfare checks on drugs.
Raising minimum wage never solves anything. Say what you will about Bush, his approval rating is shit right now, but who’s would be when faced with an unwinnable war. At least it wasn’t Kerry, man, that guy woulda rolled over and given our military over to the UN (who are controlled by communists now btw).
Frankly, I say nuke the whole bunch of um in the middle east, start over because the Islamic religion is f#%ked to begin with, that’s the most violent and vile one out there.

November 12th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

…I thought Scientology was the most violent and vile “religion”?

The Dude
November 13th, 2008 at 8:41 am

It depends on what your definition of “vile” is.

Scientology is generally considered “bad” or “vile” because of it’s extremity (no mental medication, if your doctor isn’t a scientologist you can’t go see him because he’s not like “Us”)

You know.

November 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

That and the murders.
